Part of the line composed from 5 fragrances and launched by Dolce & Gabbana in September 2009, L’Imperatrice 3 belongs to the floral aquatic group. Embodied by Naomi Campbell as the face for the ad campaign, which was executed by fashion photographer Mario Testino, L’Imperatrice 3 joins Le Bateleur 1, L’Amoreux 6, La Roue de la Fortune 10 and La Lune 18 in this collection and in spite of the all the efforts and the endeavor, this is a scent that lacks character. The other models (shot naked) in the campaign were Tyson Ballou, Noah Mills, Eva Herzigova, Fernando Fernandes and Claudia Schiffer and this is the only thing nice that you can think of after seeing the perfume, because the smell is banal.
The notes that build L’Imperatrice 3 are musk, pink cyclamen, kiwi and watermelon and there is nothing remarkable in here, except maybe the dominant watermelon note which prevents the perfume of becoming excessively sweet.
Probably L’Imperatrice 3 was supposed to inspire a dominant queen, who is used to capture all the attention and to have the entire world at her feet, but for me the only thing that inspires is banality. The smell is associated with the bath or shower lotion that we can find on the supermarket shelves and that’s exactly the place to find products in the same olfactory range as L’Imperatrice 3.
The bottle says cheap all over it and the sensation is that the ozonic-watery accords could have been better contained in a 1000 ml recipient, because it smells that way.
And the fact that although it bears the name L’Imperatrice which is Italian for empress, it may be worn by a man also, does not help in the image department. After all, it makes me quite sad that this idea which presented potential in the beginning, ended up in a product that lacks consistency.
