Introduced in 2013 accompanied by the tagline “winner takes all”, The Game is the most recent masculine fragrance from . Described as a and with the right touch of elegance, this perfume was developed by perfumer , brother of famous Jean-Claude (for those of you who do not already know the in-house perfumer for Hermes).

On the official website, The Game is depicted as “powerful” and “with an amazing contrast of vibrancy and sensuality”. For me, after testing it, I would say that it represents a very actual fragrance, somehow the modern interpretation of Cool Water.

This fresh scent opens with a good dosage of aromatic accords, provided by a gin fizz note (juniper berry). Then, as the initial note subside and The Game advances into its mid development, the iris note kicks in. Finally, for the last part, the superb combination between precious woods, vetiver and blackwood is responsible for setting up the atmosphere into the dry down.

The bottle that holds this essence represents “the embodiment of success” and “a bold declaration of intent”, according to the same source quoted above. The glass is transparent and replicates the shape of some Casino tokens (gaming chips), placed one above the other, just ready to be used for the great play. The color scheme is a mix of grey and black, providing the ensemble with substance. As for the video commercial, this relates to the world of high players and casinos, a good reference for the inspiration behind the name.

The conclusion is that I noticed during the past years an innovative take for Davidoff, with respect to their masculine perfumes. After focusing on the world of physical exercises with Champion here comes the mind’s exercise (The Game), two fragrances (and flankers!) which are good choices for active people, and worthy descendants of the classic Cool Water.
