The year 1760 marks the beginning of Creed, a luxury perfumery house founded in London by James Henry Creed. The founder, created a dynasty that was passed from father to son since then and was relocated in 1854 to Paris, as a response to a demand coming from an illustrious client, Empress Eugenie of France, for whom the fragrance Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie (still available today) was created.
Green Irish Tweed embodies a scent that is “as classic as a perfectly tailored tuxedo on Oscar Night, loyally born by today’s Hollywood leading men, who ask for it by name”, according to the description from the official website. Green Irish Tweed was introduced in 1985 as a woody floral musk, developed by perfumer Olivier Creed, the sixth generation of Creed dynasty. A memorable scent, one of my 2 favorites from Creed (the first on my list is Bois du Portugal), this perfume bursts with a refreshing masculine accord that turned it in one of the most successful fragrances created by Olivier Creed.
Advertised on the official website with the slogan “as refreshing as a walk through the Irish countryside”, Green Irish Tweed opens with notes of French verbena and Florentine iris. Later, in the mid development, the perfume unveils its floral character built from violet leaves and basil. In the dry down, the combination of Sandalwood from Mysore and ambergris confers it a warm touch.
The bottle that holds Green Irish Tweed is intended to capture the stylish character of the fragrance. The black opaque glass is adorned with the Creed logo in the upper part, while the name of the scent appears written with smaller characters at the bottom. When I tested the fragrance 2 years ago I was impressed by the note of originality and the fact that I recognized a few recent creations inspired by it. Overall, Green Irish Tweed defines a unique style in perfumery.
