When I read about this fragrance as being Frank Sinatra’s favorite, I realized that I had to sample it in the near future, because the possibility of finding a new addition to my perfume wardrobe was big. Subsequent to the test, I’m happy to say that all my expectations were not disappointed: the perfume is everything I’ve anticipated and more.
Bois du Portugal was introduced by Creed in 1987 as a masculine oriental woody fragrance, developed by Oliver Creed. The word “bois” means “woods” in French, hence the inspiration for this extremely pleasant fragrance: the fragrant woods of Portugal. The description from the official website says that “A rich, warm, mysterious scent, Creed Bois du Portugal is bursting with personality and power” and that’s exactly what I’ve sensed upon testing it.
The fragrance opens on an enchanting note of bergamot, which will delight your olfactory senses. Then, in no more than 20 minutes, the top note will vanish, occasion on which the heart unfurls a precious note of lavender. In a couple of hours, in time for the mid development, the warm notes of cedar and Mysore sandalwood will combine with vetiver and ambergris, to result a memorable long lasting trail.
The bottle that holds Bois du Portugal represents a classic Creed flask, made from transparent glass and revealing a pale yellow liquid. The touch of exclusivity is rendered by the green label written in golden letters and the word “Millesime”, that appears on the label, a symbol for quality in Creed fragrances. This denomination signifies that only the best crops from a certain year’s harvest were employed in the manufacturing process of the specific fragrance.
Bois du Portugal is a fragrance that exudes style and class, ideal for both day and evening wear, which will hopefully materialize in a future acquisition for me.
