Last summer I tested CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme, because I read so many favorable reviews and I wanted to make myself an opinion on it. What I have discovered is a perfume that is innovative, balanced by an interesting mix of citruses and spices, however with a trait which does not represent what I’m looking for in a perfume: CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme stays close to the skin.
On the official website, the scent is described as “the traveler of a symbolic metropolitan jungle which seems made of emotions” and later on, as a perfumer with “predominant emotion: elegance, charm”. What I noticed is that CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme is undeniable distinctive, due to its combination of apparently contradictory elements and its equilibrium that comes as one of its features.
A creation of perfumer Dominique Ropion, CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme is a woody spicy, which was introduced in 2009. According the creator of CoSTUME NATIONAL, Italian fashion designer Enio Capasa, “The harmony between natural and rare elements creates an original, sensual and charming fragrance, for an essential and timeless man”.
CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme starts off with a blend of grapefruit, bergamot and cardamom, which is replaced in the mid development by a heady combination of cinnamon, thyme and cloves. The scent develops excellent on the skin, until dry down, which features a mix of labdanum, patchouli and sandalwood.
CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme comes in a bottle designed by Enio Capasa, with a soft and smooth shape. The transparent glass was adorned with a platinum serigraphy, while the silver pump was concealed by a stopper of identical form, an exclusive design for CoSTUME NATIONAL, making the tube inside invisible. Overall, CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme is a unique perfume, which is both mysterious and seductive.
