Eau Extreme, the newest addition to the Allure Homme line was introduced this February, as a woody aromatic fragrance developed by Chanel house perfumer Jacques Polge. Taking into account my interest in Chanel perfumes, I was more than eager to test this new flanker to 2004’s Allure Homme Sport, which was at its turn also a flanker, this time to 1998’s Allure Homme. I admit that I wasn’t a fan of the 2004 scent (although I deeply enjoyed the 2008’s Allure Homme Edition Blanche!), but the most recent aromas of designed by Mr. Polge (read Bleu de Chanel!) convinced me that the process of creation was on the right track.
So, the past weekend I was a little overwhelmed by the massive promotion dedicated to this new Chanel essence. Congratulations on Sephora for miving so quickly, because it’s always a pleasure to sample a scent soon after its launch! I will leave the details for later and reveal that Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is the second perfume I would buy (from the ones tested since the beginning of this year), after Jean Paul Gaultier’s Kokorico. Of course, I liked also Avant Garde from Lanvin, but its uninspired bottle did not encourage any buying thought.
The opening of Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme contains a good dosage of mandarin orange, which, coupled with cypress and mint created the perfect refreshing start. Later, in about 20 to 30 minutes the aroma of black pepper was easy detectable, however subdued by its blend with sage. For the final part, a sensual combination of white musk, Tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood was employed. I enjoyed Eau Extreme quite well, given that it has a long-lasting trail.
The bottle that holds Eau Extreme preserves the shape of its predecessors, except the color scheme which features a metallic grey shade. Shape like a sign of elegance, the flask has a black stopper adorned with a silver ring, which comes engraved with the brand’s name. The Hawaiian surfer Danny Fuller is the face of Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, in a series of 4 short films, shot by the Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow. The final result is a fragrance dedicated to the active man, which remains faithful to the Chanel classic style, inaugurated with Allure Homme.
