Introduced in 2008, Allure Homme Edition Blanche is a classical example of citrus aromatic fragrance for men. The scent was developed by Chanel house perfumer Jacques Polge and is a flanker to 1999’s Allure Homme, an iconic scent at the end of the 90’s, which is still preserving its magnetism these days.
On Chanel’s official website, the fragrance is advertised with the tag line “a new dimension of style” and given that I’m a fan of citruses (mostly in the winter!), my first sniff of Allure Homme Edition Blanche was sufficiently convincing to induce me a buying suggestion. It was the year 2008 and I was very close to materialize the thought, however give up the idea in the last moment.
The construction of this “White Edition” (the English translation for Edition Blanche) revolves around the accords of citruses present in the top notes and easily detectable. The initial spray on the skin brings an aroma of lemon mixed with bergamot to create a stingy start. Then, as the scent moves into the mid development, a new facet is unveiled: a spicy blend of white pepper and pink pepper, juxtaposed to ginger; cedar is added in the heart to confer a warmer and more personal character to the scent. The final notes turn to a woody musky base, filled with sandalwood, white musk, Tonka bean and vanilla.
The bottle that holds Allure Homme Edition Blanche has the same rectangular shape from its predecessor highlighted a color scheme which combines a shade of bronze with white; a hint a black was employed in the perfume’s name.
Allure Homme Edition Blanche was announced as a limited edition however it will be a shame if Chanel really decide to give this classification its exact meaning. The creation of Mr. Polge is actually a perfume which is re-interpreting its source of inspiration in a very interesting way and constitutes an elegant selection for a stylish man.
