Since the first sniff of the most representative fragrances made by Carthusia (it happened more than 3 years ago!) I was captivated by Numero Uno and want it badly. Luckily, exactly one year ago I managed to purchase it and I still have a quarter left in the 50 ml bottle. Afterwards, my fascination grew and I decided that I should buy one more. As a result, I got into the point when I needed to make a decision between Carthusia Uomo and 1681. And, in spite of the fact that I’m still a huge fan of 1681 and its aroma, “the chosen one” was Carthusia Uomo.
As a masculine fragrance that arrived on the market in 2004 and belonging to the woody aromatic olfactory group, this scent is “dedicated to the man who eschews but liked to charm”, “a fresh and elegant scent, reminiscent of wholesome things like the open sea, fresh fruit, good Russian leather and recently spun cashmere” (taken from the description in the official website). In case you are looking for something totally different and you want to move away from the mainstream perfumery, this perfume is the answer.
Based on a recipe that belongs to the 1940’s, a fascinating period for the Capri Island, the structure and the employed ingredients in Carthusia Uomo are complex, giving birth to a unique essence. I tested it several times on my wrist and I was always enchanted by the pungent opening that combined lemon, bergamot, freesia and green leaves. Then, after an initial period of approximately 20 minutes, the perfume settles on the skin and its heart is unveiled. The essence of rosewood which is present at this stage is blended in a sea breeze note that confers to this configuration a sensation of warmth and freshness. In the dry down, Carthusia Uomo becomes more elusive due to the blend of sandalwood, amber and musk that renders a very pleasant projection on the skin.
The bottle that encloses Carthusia Uomo has a beautiful rectangular form and is manufactured from transparent glass. Topped by a dark shaded stopper with perfectly cut rims and adorned with a gray label bearing the perfume’s name, this image exudes style and class.
