Fragrance Review

In 2002, was introducing Chic, a floral feminine fragrance. Developed by perfumers and , Chic was about to become one of the most popular fragrance from the Venezuelan-born American designer. The masculine counterpart followed after 2 years and for me, it was one of the first fragrances that I knew I had to buy right from the first sniff. Of course, at that time my knowledge regarding perfume was limited and I was easily animated by any new perfume, but in spite of all that, the Chic duo from Carolina Herrera could be considered one contemporary classic.

The two famous perfumers managed to create with Chic a scent which is both light, yet stylish, embodied by the red color, to highlight the passion and built with contrasts, similar to an equilibrium that involves sensual grace and freshness. The woman that wears Chic is interested in fashion and is always preoccupied with having an impeccable look, hence the perfume comes as her natural accessory.

Chic starts off with an interesting blend that puts the Bulgarian rose next to red freesia, in a floral explosion that’s charming to say the least. Then, as the top notes fade away, another floral facet is unveiled, this time with the courtesy of mandarin blossom and orange a combination that prepares the ground for the woody and sensual base. After approximately one hour, the dry down takes place, featuring the aroma of sensual vanilla, warm sandalwood and white musk.

The bottle that holds Chic has a perfectly cut silhouette and brings to mind a block of glass. The combination of transparency and red color confers added elegance to the perfume’s image.
