In the last couple of years, the trend of bling-bling in perfumery has gained more and more fans, therefore the houses are attempting to honor the demand (which was, let’s be honest, generated by them in the first place!). So, after the huge success of 1 Million by Paco Rabanne, Carolina Herrera decided that they need something similar and in July 2011 they presented to the public 212 VIP Men.
Arrived on the market one year after its feminine counterpart, this masculine scent could be described as an oriental woody and was developed by 2 perfumers Emilie Coppermann and David Apel. Having an image that intends to impress the customer with its feeling of “exclusivity”, 212 VIP Men’s tagline is “When you touch quality, you know it” and for a brief moment this was it actually did, since after the first spraying I felt like I was back at a college party (it seems like a long time ago, although it is not!).
212 VIP Men starts off with an olfactory cocktail reserved for the chosen ones, in this phase the aromas being provided by notes such as caviar lime, frozen mint and black pepper. The latter pungent accord makes room in the second phase for a mix that’s meant to maintain your alertness throughout the night. The notes delivered here are chilled vodka, hot ginger and slice of apple. Much later, in approximately one hour and a half, the dry down reveals itself through an exclusive aroma of wood (official listed note King wood) juxtaposed to an accord of salty amber and Tonka bean. If I did not know better, I could say that 212 VIP Men was conceived for spoiling your nostrils with the aroma and as a consequence reducing your consumption of liquor (sic!).
The flacon that holds the juice is exhibiting a metallic silver hue like “a powerful cut block that shines brightly in the mysterious darkness of the night”, according to the description from the official website. Overall, in case you loved the original 212 and you don’t mind the present appearance of the bottle, you could sample 212 VIP Men, as this could be an alternative to the classic.
