Sara Carner, the founder of Carner Barcelona, planned 2 perfumes, to be the first launches of her newly established perfumery house: D600 and Tardes (Catalan and Spanish for “afternoon”). I tested them both last year and I managed to penetrate a little the statement that promised “evoking memories, sharing experiences and transmitting emotions”.
D600 was introduced in 2010 as a woody spicy shared fragrance, developed by perfumer Christophe Raynaud. As mentioned by the description on the official website D600 is “A perfume that captures the urban lifestyle and Mediterranean spirit of Barcelona; a vibrant spicy perfume with a touch of mystery”. As a former resident of the gorgeous capital of Catalunya, I discovered an interesting scent, but, to be honest, somewhere below my extremely high expectations.
The attention for details is easily observed by the selected ingredients therefore after spraying a blotter I decided to damp my wrist for a proper sampling. D600 opens on a spicy fruity note, with Madagascan black pepper, Sicilian bergamot and grapefruit. Then, after no more than 20 minutes, the construction transforms to a floral heart infused with spicy accents, containing Italian iris, Egyptian jasmine absolute and Guatemalan cardamom. After two hours, the woody base is dried down to a combination of Virginia cedar wood, Madagascan vanilla absolute and vetiver. The fragrance sits nicely on skin; however I felt that its persistence, although in the usual limits, was betraying vaguely my expectations. Do not get me wrong, before the test I imagined that I would discover something sensational to match Barcelona, instead I tested a good fragrance and nothing more.
The bottle of D600 exhibits some classic and elegant lines, in which the accent comes on the black stopper engraved with the brand’s name, which evokes Sara Carner’s heritage in leather craftsmanship.
