I feel fascinated towards the back story behind every scent from By Kilian, but until Incense Oud (even this one is not perfect for me, however let’s say that it is), it seemed that not a single one behaved pleasant on my skin. Straight to Heaven is one of these examples.
Introduced in 2007, as part of the L’Oeuvre Noire (French for “The Black Masterpiece”), Straight to Heaven is a woody spicy shared fragrance, “inspired by Rum, a life-giving alcohol blending the heat of Caribbean Islands”, as mentioned by the description from the official website. I tested this scent developed by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, because I believed that was something interesting. And I still consider a pleasant perfume!
The listed ingredients of the perfume include: Martinican Rum absolute, dried fruits accord, Japanese nutmeg, hedione, cedarwood, Indonesian patchouli, ambergris, vanilla absolute, white musk. However, when sprayed on my Straight to Heaven behaved unusual, having an initial phase that could be considered spicy- fruity, passing through an enchanting floral heart and finishing with a very discrete and quite disappointing base, the reason for which I do not consider this scent as one of my favorites. I know that I’m over demanding nevertheless I consider that one needs to love all the phases of a perfume in order to declare it pleasant.
Straight to Heaven comes in the bottle that became a By Kilian classic and enclosed in a deluxe packaging that replicates the shape of a jewelry box. Under the perfume’s name the words “white crystal” are printed, like a short description of this scent. Overall, Straight to Heaven will please the persons that solicit the maximum from their lives.
