I like Burberry for what this represents in the fashion industry and in spite of this until present day I did not encounter any perfume able to inspire me a buying impulse. I admit that I wasn’t able to sniff their entire line of fragrances but, to my opinion Burberry scents are pleasant but, lack the extraordinary feature that could turn them into iconic. That is why I’m constantly sampling (whenever I got the occasion!) everything that I could get my hands on and from the latest releases Body proved to be really interesting (could and would have made it into the “to buy” list for my wife if there weren’t many others far more important!).
My most recent test is The Beat for Men, a scent which is pleasant, except the fact that it stays close to the skin and does not perform so well in the department of persistence. Introduced in September 2008 and having music as its source of inspiration, The Beat for Men “captures all the characteristics of the beat men, it’s masculine, effortless and distinctive with a modern, original identity” (according to a statement from Christopher Bailey the brand’s Creative Director. This perfume belongs to the woody aromatic olfactory group and was developed by perfumers Olivier Polge and Domitille Bertier. An interesting aspect is the fact that the first, son of the famous Jacques Polge has collaborated as well in the development of its feminine counterpart The Beat for Women, which arrived on the market at the beginning of 2008.
And because I did not get a chance to sniff it at the launch, I succeeded in doing this last Friday, occasion which lead to a quite pleasant surprise. The Beat for Men starts off with a blend of black pepper, cedar and violet, followed in a couple of minutes by a heart imbued with geranium and white thyme, a combination which eventually dries down to a base of leatherwood and vetiver bourbon.
The flacon that contains the fragrance is made from transparent glass and comes decorated with the famous Burberry pattern fabric; the color of the liquid is soft green and attached to the bottle’s neck there’s something that looks like a clothing label.
