I sniffed Boss in Motion for the first time 10 years ago, in 2002, soon after its introduction. The occasion was the new launch (at that time!) which was presented me on a blotter that maintained its scent for 2 days. Insofar as it can be ascertained it was the bottle that kept me from buying it, because back then, I was quite reticent to the bottles that didn’t employed a design containing perfectly cut shapes. Fortunately, the time proved me that I was wrong and today I am fully able to appreciate this perfume at its real potential.
Presented in a bottle that has the shape of a ball, the image that seemed to me wrong in 2002, looks innovative to me now, except the color, which I would replace with a black hue. This picture is as well an echo of the dominant note of the perfume, orange, given that the bottle might be assimilated with a perfect shape orange bursting with freshness.
Boss in Motion was launched as an oriental fougere fragrance, obviously dedicated to men, developed by Domitille (Michalon) Bertier, Senior Perfumer with IFF. This perfume represents the symbol of an active lifestyle, being suitable only for the man that enjoys the action in his life. And this is also evident in the official description that mentions “A fresh and masculine blend with the spontaneity of an active lifestyle.”
The fragrance opens with a blend of citruses from which you’ll recognize aromas of bergamot and orange. According to the listed ingredients, violet leaf and basil blossom are also present. The heart encompasses a mixture of spices (pink pepper, cardamom and cinnamon) and nutmeg. And the dry down includes musk, sandalwood, woodsy notes and vetiver.
The marketing campaign was fronted by Frech-Swedish model Julien Hedquist in short film, directed by Erick Ifergan that features the idea of competition and sports activity. Overall, Boss in Motion is an extremely pleasant fragrance built around the note of orange.
