At the moment Baldessarini was launched, I was in Barcelona and regrettably, I did not love it from the first sniff. Later, after the second and the third try, I perceived its true character and turned into a fan. The truth is that Baldessarini was quite different from anything found on the market in that period and this could be the logical explanation for my initial reticence.
Introduced in 2002 as the new luxury line fragrance from Hugo Boss (at that time), Baldessarini is an oriental woody masculine fragrance, developed by perfumers Jean-Marc Chaillan and Pierre Wargnye. Advertised with the tagline “Separates the men from the boys”, this scent was clearly positioned from the start, as a fragrance for a more mature audience. The newly created brand embodies the passion for exquisite things in life and an authentic love of beauty. To complete the image, a face with notoriety was needed and hence, Charles Schumann, the owner of the famous Munich bar appeared in the ad campaign.
The perfume is structured in order to evoke a travel to exotic lands. The opening of Baldessarini is a blend of mint, tangerine and bitter orange. Then, as the scent ages, the heart composed of cloves and chamomile is revealed. For the final part, juniper, patchouli, white musk and amber are wrapped in an elegant trail of tobacco, to leave a long lasting impression. The composition of Baldessarini feels very sensual on the skin, adding a touch of class to the whole image.
The bottle that holds the perfume was inspired by an old Eau de Cologne bottle discovered by Werner Baldessarini during a voyage to Singapore. The transparent glass with masculine shapes is topped by a metallic stopper in an image that bursts with refined elegance.
