Del Mar Caribbean was introduced in 2007, as a flanker to 2005’s Baldesarini Del Mar, this symbolizing the debut of a series of fragrances that continued one year later with Del Mar Marbella Edition (my personal favorite, still have in my collection, although it’s almost empty) and in 2009 with Del Mar Seychelles Limited Edition. After 2009, Baldessarini cancelled their yearly launch belonging to this line (probably an effect of the global recession!) and in 2011, the multinational corporation Procter & Gamble sold the license for Baldessarini fragrance business to the German group Maurer & Wirtz.
This woody aromatic scent represents the perfect getaway to an exotic location like Caribbean Sea, and in the same time a reference to sailing that was already announced by the perfume which inaugurated the line in 2005. I tested Del Mar Caribbean a couple of months subsequent to its introduction and I was quite tempted by an acquisition thought.
Analyzed from its structure point of view, Del Mar Caribbean follows the classic olfactory pyramid with its top, middle and base notes. The beginning of the fragrance is a mix of citrus and fruits, embodied by bergamot and black currant. Then, the time passes and you enter the mid development phase, in which Del Mar Caribbean turns spicy, due to a blend of pepper and cardamom, juxtaposed by sage. After a couple of hours, the most personal facet of the perfume is revealed, in a combination of warm amber and cedar.
Del Mar Caribbean comes in a bottle that looks exactly like Del Mar’s recipient, except this time the transparent glass reveals a liquid reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea water’s color scheme. This image is completed by the name of the fragrance, printed in silver letters on the upper part of the bottle.
Overall Del Mar Caribbean is the ideal fragrance geared towards the active young man who loves the exotic locations and is not afraid to experience his fantasies.
