The year was 2004, a time when Armani Code was launched, initially under the name Black Code and I was the happy owner of a bottle, in no more than one month from its arrival on the market. During that period, a friend of mine was travelling to Dubai, and having complete confidence in her taste, I gave her liberty to buy me this perfume “in blind”. This was my first acquisition under this let’s say “procedure” and the most successful till today, because as I recall it, I only repeated the experience one time, however unguided, and the outcome was far from OK.
Therefore, as I’m sure you have already figured it out by now, with Armani Code/Black Code as a reference, the most recent flanker could not miss from my “selected for a test” list. Introduced in August 2012, this new masculine oriental woody was developed by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu and is “based on a more luxurious intense and sensual dimension compared to previous Armani Code versions” (according to Armani Code Ultimate’s Facebook page).
And this is as well the image promoted by the video commercial, which depicts the typical Italian elegance, imagined in black and white. The target man is represented by the type of bold and seductive “Italian lover”, bursting with ubiquitous sensuality. As for the notes detected in Armani Code Ultimate, I was delighted by some powerful and addictive aromas.
The top notes are shaped like a pungent mix of citruses (grapefruit and mandarin orange), juxtaposed to the unmistakable accord of star anise. Then, as the scent advances into its mid development stage, Code Ultimate turns to a floral woody facet highlighted by accords of cedar, cypress and heliotrope. After more than one hour, I was able to perceive the first accords from the dry down, in which the most obvious were the accords of vanilla and olive blossom, joined later by a combination which involved Tonka bean and guaiac wood in the composition.
The flacon that holds the essence is made from the same dark blue opaque glass with curvy shapes, except this time the stopper was painted in gold, in order to differentiate it from the original. Overall, I’ll say that Armani Code Ultimate will please the fans of the original, in search of something new, but with a twist. So, don’t be afraid to give it a shot, and please comment if you feel like it.
