Last year, while my wife and I were visiting our Sephora favorite store with the purpose of acquiring her a fresh recipient from the preferred foundation (the old one was pretty much ran out), I received a tester from Armani Code Sport, the new launch (at that time!) from the Italian fashion house of Giorgio Armani. This perfume, instead of its quite aggressive promotion (or maybe because of that!), has never convinced me, partly because normally I do not like flankers, and partly due to the fact that Armani Code (named initially Armani Black Code!) was one of my favorite scents throughout time (I bought it immediately after its launch!). Sadly, my intuition was right.
Armani Code Sport was introduced in June 2011, as a woody aromatic fragrance for men, developed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier. The accent of this scent comes on erotic images and sensuality, rather than the painstakingly selection of ingredients (sorry Mr. Cavallier!). The elaborated image of Armani Code Sport is fronted by the ubiquitous American actress Megan Fox, featured alongside male model Christopher Folz in a tale that involves the passion between a man and a woman. Giorgio Armani resorted to the state-of-the-art technology (molecular and CO2 processes of extraction) in order to offer us his vision on modern sporty fragrances, filled with sensuality.
Armani Code sport opens on a refreshing tone, with mandarin orange, mint, peppermint and pennyroyal mint. The heart contains a 5% concentration of ambrox, which is an ingredient prepared from mucky accords of ambergris. In the end, the construction dries down to a base full of vetiver, ginger and hivernal (a molecule with cold notes).
The bottle that holds Armani Code Sport is a re-interpretation of the original Code, with a red shade employed for printing the name Sport and topped by a metallic-grey stopper. I can’t help but feel disappointed with Armani Code Sport (and I’m not referring here to its poor lasting power!), at the same time as my take on this is that the original fragrance remains the only Armani Code for me.
