Mediterraneo is the second major masculine fragrance line from Antonio Banderas (actually is the fifth, if we take into account 1999’s Diavolo per Donna and 2000’s Diavolo Temptation for Men and for Women!). Introduced in 2001 and developed by perfumer Rosendo Mateu, Mediterraneo is described as a woody aromatic. The official website mentions the phrase “the freshness and comforting moods associated with the Mediterranean nature” and it is pretty much this way.
In spite of the tag “celebrity fragrance”, the collaboration between Antonio Banderas and the Spanish cosmetics producer had a nice development. I can not that that these fragrances represents something that I desire to own, but that fair fact is that for the paid price, the offer is a little above the usual mass-market fragrance.
I sampled Mediterraneo at the time of its launch, and taking into account that I wasn’t so avid about fragrances, the sensation was quite nice. In the first moment, the aroma of bergamot is clearly detectable, replaced in no more than a couple of minutes by a spicy blend of pepper and ginger. Mediterraneo exhibited a liner projection on my skin, until finally drying down to a combination of warm amber, vetiver and elegant musk. The dominant notes of this scent are spices combined with citruses, while the persistence is nothing worse compared to the usual fragrances of this category.
The flacon that holds Mediterraneo is made from transparent glass, revealing a liquid that evokes the color of the sea and topped by a stopper that has a wooden look. The video advertisement is evoking the fresh feature of the perfume.
