Four years after the huge success of Angel, Thierry Mugler presented its masculine counterpart, an oriental woody fragrance called A*Men. The perfumed launched in 1996 and developed by perfumer Jacques Huclier was built upon “a natural sense of challenge” as described on the official website. As a consequence, approximately one year ago, Thierry Mugler announced a new face for the marketing campaign, in the person of the outstanding athlete Oscar Pistorius, an authentic “modern day hero”, “the world class sprinter with carbon fiber artificial limbs” who represents the determination spirit embodied by the fragrance.
The construction of A*Men relies on the woody and gourmand accords to convey its unique character. The fragrance opens with a refreshing blend of lavender, bergamot, coriander and peppermint. Then, in the mid development the woody accords of patchouli and Atlas cedar are combined with the sweet facets of caramel, milk and honey for announcing the innovative base. In the extreme dry down, coffee notes, styrax, Tonka bean and white musk unveil an explosive energy which is counterbalanced by the warm amber and elegant sandalwood.
Feels like Thierry Mugler invited us into a parallel universe in which the past, present and the future coexist. The same sensation is experienced upon watching the video advertisement, since both the initial and the most recent one are featuring the fantastic world of A*Men. The bottle that holds the scent was designed by none other than Thierry Mugler and comes in 2 editions: rubber black and solid metal.
